Facts about Female Genital Mutilation (FGM)

Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) involves the partial or total removal of external female genital organs for cultural or non medical reasons. 

As we all know, the practice of Female Genital Mutilation has no health benefits but rather causes pain and harm to the girls and women who have been subjected to have this practice and by so doing, it is a violation of the Human Rights of girls and women. 

More than 200 million girls and women alive today have been subjected to the practice, you can imagine the pains and harms these women go through their lifetime. FGM is mostly carried out on young girls between infancy and age 15.

Female Genital Mutilation has not caused only pain which is one of the immediate health risk to the women that practice this but long term issues such as:

✔️ Vaginal discharge 

✔️painful menstruation 

✔️Urinary problems

✔️ Child birth difficulties

✔️Excessive bleeding

✔️ Itching

✔️ Shock and even death

This practice goes as far as affecting these women physically, mentally, sexually and well being throughout life course. It also causes sexual dysynfunction which contributes to marital conflicts or divorce. 

The more we practice this, the more lives we endanger. Let's not forget that this practice has no health benefits and therefore should not be considered as an option in the society.
