Kola nut is a fruit that comes out from a kola tree. It is majorly found in the West Africa. While the European countries has the kola extracts. The most common kola nuts are the cola acuminata and cola nitida. Each fruit contains 2 or 5 kola nuts about the size of a chestnut and has mainly 2 colours. Kola nuts have a bitter taste when chewed fresh but when they are dried, the taste becomes milder. Its major composition is caffeine so it acts as a stimulant to the central nervous system. It belongs to the Sterculiaceae family.
Kola nut extract is a common flavour found in coca-cola, pepsi and other energy drink in a mild quantity. According to the United states food and drug administration, the kola extracts are safe for human consumption.
Kola nut has many benefits though an intensive research has not been conducted on it yet.
The use of kola nuts dates back to history and it has been said to cure:
Low sex drive
Cures atonic diarrhoea
Remember, kola nuts can be dried and boiled to make tea
However, in anyway you might choose to consume it, don't ever take too much of the kola nut for your health. Mild is good but too much is not advisable.
