Types of Skin Problems, Symptoms, Treatment, and Prevention

The skin being the largest organ of the body protects you from microbes and elements, helps regulate your body temperature, permits sensations of touch, heat, and cold. The skin has three basic layers which are the epidermis (outer layer of the skin), dermis(home to glans, follicles, etc), and the hypodermis (the deepest layer of the skin that attaches it to bones and muscles).

With this part of the body being so large and important, the disorders also vary greatly in symptoms and severity, which means these skin disorders can be temporary or permanent and can also be painless or painful. Just as there are various types of disorders, there are also situational causes and some of the conditions could be minor while others can be life-threatening.

Here are types of skin problems:

Eczema: This is the inflammation of the skin (dermatitis) that causes an itchy rash on the surface.

Rash: An abnormal change in the skin’s appearance which could be as simple as skin irritation.

Psoriasis: This is an autoimmune condition that causes skin rashes, silver and scaly plaques on the skin.

DandruffL A condition that affects the scalp that would be scaly which is caused by seborrheic dermatitis, eczema, etc

Acne: This is the most common skin condition which affects over 85% of people

Cellulitis: This is the inflammation of the dermis and subcutaneous tissues due to an infection that would show a red, warm, and most times painful skin rash.

Boil (skin abscess): this is an infection of the skin which creates a collection of pus under the skin. Most times the abscesses must be opened and drained by a doctor during treatment.

Melanoma: This is a type of cancer that is most dangerous to the skin which results from sun damage and other causes.

Chicken Pox: This is a condition where there are clusters of itchy, red, fluid-filled blisters on the skin accompanied by fever, body aches, sore throat, and loss of appetite

Ringworm: A circular-shaped scaly rash on the skin which is itchy and will appear clear and healthy though
