If you're planning on timing yourself, the medical community generally agrees that you should limit the time you spend sitting on the toilet to ten minutes or less. If you find that it consistently takes you longer than this to take care of business, consider eating more fiber, which helps ward off constipation.
Pressing phone in the toilet has become a culture in our time especially among the youth. I won't lie, its enjoyable to just sit down there away from the disturbances of people and follow that trending gist on Twitter. You know, that celebrity gist on Instagram cannot be missed. I know many of us do this. But do you know its a bad habit and its not good for your health?
Spending too much time on the toilet causes pressure on your rectum and anus. Because the seat is cut out, your rectum is lower than the rest of your backside. Gravity takes over, and blood starts to pool and clot in those veins. Add in any straining or pushing, and you may have a recipe for hemorrhoids.
Hemorrhoids or piles, are essentially varicose veins in your rectum or anus, said Dr. They form because of excess pressure on the veins. As a result, the veins can bulge and fill with blood clots. This can lead to pain, itching and other unpleasant effects. While hemorrhoids are less common in children, they still can happen. Plus, habits can last a lifetime, meaning they may get used to spending too much time in the toilet, putting them at risk for hemorrhoids later in life.
What happens when you sit on the toilet for too long?
You end up with varicose veins ,because sitting for prolong period of time put excess pressure on the veins. This prevents blood from flowing back to the heart. Our veins are surrounded by muscles to keep them in shape, And to make the blood flow continuously without interruption. When these veins are interrupted with pressure, like prolong sitting or standing, instead of flowing continuously, the blood accumulates within the veins, And sometimes leaks out into surrounding tissue, and we call it varicose veins, that usually appears on legs where there is a strong gravitational pressure as they push blood back to the heart.
