6 Ways You Can Get STDs Without Having Sex

Most people believe that sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) are only transmitted through penetrative vaginal, anal or oral intercourse. But this is not true. Some persons out of ignorance decided to avoid having penetrative intercourse yet engage in other sexual acts thinking that would prevent STIs (which later manifest into STDs).

Sexually Transmitted Infections are not just found in holes like the vagina, anus or mouth. They can be spread through skin-to-skin contact and body fluid contact. According to Healthline, people can contract STIs through these non-sexual means in as much as there is swapping of body fluids.

1. A platonic mouth-to-mouth kiss with an infected person might result in an exchange of body fluid which can lead to contraction of STI.

2. Getting a body piercing or new tattoo might put you at risk of contracting an STI. This is why it is advisable to be very cautious when going through these procedures.

3. Getting a blood transfusion from an infected person is one of the ways sexually transmitted infections can be spread from person to person or an infected person to an uninfected person.

4. An infected mother can spread STI to her newborn baby during delivery and through breastfeeding

5. Sharing sex toys that have not been properly cleaned after being used by an infected person

6. Carelessly sharing needles, syringes or other sharp objects can also result in the spread of STIs. The human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is an example of an STI which can be contracted through sharp objects.
