Everybody desires to be happy because it is a universal human emotion that always feels right. To some extent, you want to learn how to be happy with yourself for everything you and every moment you share with others. However, not everyone knows how to achieve this state. Unfortunately, society has not helped with this confusion, rather we confuse happiness with materialistic possessions. We always believe that the more things we have, the more happy we tend to be. As a result, a lot of people spend their entire lives chasing happiness, only to be left feeling defeated when they don’t find their version of fulfilment.
Happiness is an internal condition and not some external form of worldly possession. You won’t buy a new dress or purchase a new car and feel happy for eternity. Yes, you may feel short-term gratification from those possessions, but this happy feeling won’t last and shortly after, you will be looking for the next thing to make you happy for a short while again.
There is no magic pill for happiness because it is an inside job, a choice that you have to make yourself. Try the following techniques to learn how to be happy with yourself every day.
#1. Practice Mindfulness
The way you start everyday is essential to your happiness. If you wrongly roll out of bed, hastenly take a cup of coffee, and hurriedly rush out of the house to work, how do you think will be for that day?
I don’t know about you, but most people end up getting emotionally stressed. If you don’t master your mind, your mind will master you and we don't want to happen for any reason.
When you wake up every morning, make sure to fill your mental and emotional self with nourishment so you can be up for success and happiness. Mediation is a good practice for high spirited mind, exercises, journal, affirmations, etc., are all forms of creating good morning vibes.
Meditating is great, but it’s bigger than that. You want to strive to live more mindfully all around. Think of mindfulness as a moment-to-moment awareness of one’s experience, without judgment. Always try to be in the present in any given moment of your life and take time enjoy the little things of life.
#2. Be Grateful Always.
What are you grateful for? Gratitude is a way of living that focuses on seeing the good in things, no matter how small and no matter the condition. Of course, it can be difficult to be grateful when you are going through though times in life. But there is always good in what ever struggle you are involved in, you just have to be willing to find it. When you adopt an attitude of gratitude, you shift into a state of appreciation. Before you know it, there will be no room for sadness because you are choosing happiness.
Research shows that gratitude is strongly associated with greater happiness. When you gratify your actions more, you feel more positive about yourself and this in turn improves your health (Harvard Health Publishing: Giving Thanks Can Make You Happier).
So I urge you if you to start a gratitude journal, if you have not started already. This practice can change your life forever, all that is required is a few minutes of your time everyday.
#3. Identify Your Crew
Finding your crew is a bold step towards happiness because naturally, we are social beings and connecting with each other helps us to survive more easily. We tend to need one another especially when we are in difficulty.
Research shows that people who feel more connected to others have lower levels of anxiety and depression, higher self-esteem, and greater empathy for others (Stanford Medicine: Connectedness & Health: The Science of Social Connection).
Majority of us are what we are today because of our families which are our primary crew members. My family is my crew because I know they will always have my back, no matter what. If you want to be happy and successful, you need to surround yourself with friends or people who share the same vision as you do, else you will find yourself doubting your abilities and feeling low always.
Strive to find people who empower you to become a better version of yourself. They will naturally enhance your happiness and make you feel good about yourself.
#4. Connect to Your Body Intelligence
People usually get stuck because they live too much of their lives in their heads and fail to connect with their body intelligence. Your body is constantly speaking to you, having the ability to listen and act upon it's request is all you need.
When you don’t listen to it, you end up getting into trouble. The body is intimately connected to the gut. The more you go inwardly and grant your body the attention it needs, the more you are able to connect with your intuition.
It is the place of inner wisdom that brings you back home to yourself. In actual fact, every cell in the body is intelligent, with the heart acting like a conductor for the cellular processes taking place within us in each and every moment[Unimed Living:The Body Is Intelligent].
#5. Don’t Take Life Too Seriously
As the saying goes, Life is too short. If you spend the entire ride worrying and agonizing about everything, then be sure to miss so many beautiful and wonderful moments. And also, it tends to create some dis-ease in the body.

In childhood, we are encouraged to play and be free. However, a lot of people lose this desire once they become adults. If you can relate to this, let me ask your something… what would happen if you slowed down and took the time to enjoy life more?
You wouldn't want to look back at your life an wished you smiled and laughed more. Nobody wants to live with regrets.
The next time that you’re taking yourself too seriously, step back and ask yourself: “Is this situation worth getting so frustrated over?” If not, move on and get back to enjoying life.
You can’t always control the external world. However, you can always control your internal world. Finding simple ways to be happy with yourself every day is a commitment. However, it is worth the effort because you deserve to live a happy life.
