Breaking: 4 Doctors, 1 Nurse of University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital Test Positive for Covid 19

New Cases have no History of Recent Travels.......

With the official announcement of 5 more people in Kwara testing positive to the corona virus, Fresh Insight can exclusive relay insight into the details of the new patients.

According to an insider source who proffer anonymity because he was not authorised to talk, the results which came in earlier today returned 5 positive verdicts and some others coming out negative.

"All the 5 new cases contacted the virus locally which we refer to as community transfer as they had no recent foreign trips, but had contacts with either confirmed or suspected covid 19 patients and that was why they were tested in the first place.

"The 5 new cases are all caregivers and workers at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, Ilorin Kwara State" he stressed.

Giving Fresh Insight TV further breakdown, he said "We have 4 Doctors and a Nurse who were all infected while attending to suspected carriers as health workers", now another round of contact tracing have begun while we await more tests tomorrow" he stressed.

With this new tally, it brings the number of confirmed positive cases in Kwara to 9, while 2 had fully recovered and discharged.

A total number of 128 people have so far been tested out if which 87 returned negative, 32 results are still being awaited as at the time of filing this report.

It would be recalled that A senior consultant with the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, Ilorin, Kwara State, Alakija Salami, was suspended by management of the hospital for allegedly covering up the status and death of a patient, who recently returned to Nigeria from the United Kingdom.

The patient, who died on April 3 with likely symptoms of Covid 19, infected his wife with the virus before his demise.

A statement by the hospital’s management on said, “The management of University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital hereby suspends Prof A.K. Salami as a senior consultant in the hospital. 

“This is as a result of his unethical conduct in the admission, management and eventual release of the corpse of a suspected COVID-19 patient who died in the hospital on the 3rd of April, 2020.” 

A report of an Investigative panel to probe the Incidence is yet to submit its findings to the hospital management.
