If you experience heartburn, you know the feeling well; a slight hiccup, followed by a burning sensation in your chest and throat.

This is it; when we eat, the food goes from the mouth to a tube called the esophagus. To enter the stomach, food must pass through an opening between the esophagus and the stomach. This opening acts as a door to allow food to pass into the stomach. Usually, this opening closes as soon as the food passes. But if it does not close completely, stomach acid can pass through the opening into the esophagus. This is called reflux. Stomach acid can irritate the esophagus which cause heartburn. Then the above process is what we call Hiatal Hernia.


Then this bring us to first cause of heartburn which is called Hiatal Hernia. A hiatal hernia is an abnormal condition in which the acid in the stomach goes up through the esophagus and into the heart region, which causes heartburn.

#2. Lying down after a meal:

Your stomach takes time to digest the food. Lying down just after having a meal causes the acid to flow from the stomach to the esophagus, which in turn causes a very painful heartburn.

#3. Indigestion:

Other unhealthy habits related to food, such as eating heavy meals, not chewing your food properly, having foods which are full of fat and spices, affect your digestion system. It also increases the production of acid in your stomach which then gives rise to the problem of heartburn.

Note; it is also necessary for you to note that, eating heavy meal for dinner increases the pressure in your stomach, which result to heartburn. Also people who eat very fast also tend to suffer from heartburn more than others.
