Okra is a very popular fruit that is consumed by people of different societal classes. Okra which is also known as ladyfinger, is a green flowering plant and belongs to the same plant family as hibiscus and cotton. 

Many people who consume okra do not even know about its health benefits to the body and that is why I wrote this article. Aside the wonderful taste okra has, it is filled with nutrients and minerals that are important for the body. It is widely known as a wonderful food for those with diabetes or cancer. It is loaded potassium, vitamin B, vitamin C, folic acid, and calcium. It is also low in calories and has a high fibre content. That is why everyone should incorporate okra into his or her diet.

Research has shown that okra is very effective for the early stages of diabetes. The research found that people who consumed okra water reported decreasing blood sugar levels and roasted okra seeds have been used for years as a medicine in Turkey to treat diabetes. Okra is a vegetable that has a high fibre content, which plays a vital role in the treatment of diabetes. It is named as an anti-diabetic food item due to the presence of high fibre content that regulates the blood sugar levels by hampering the rate at which it is absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. It also facilitates decent glycemic control and improves insulin sensitivity. This dietary content not only helps in diabetes but also provides other health benefits like indigestion, lessening cravings, and keeping people fuller for longer. This is one of the reasons it is healthy for diabetics. 

2. Filled with antioxidant

Antioxidants are very important in the body and okra is one of those foods that provide it. Okra is packed with antioxidants that lessen the stress level in the body. Managing diabetes is not only about what we consume but also about changes in our lifestyles that can help regulate our diabetes. Managing your stress can also help in managing your diabetes as long term stress can cause blood sugar levels to rise. Consume more okra to elevate the level of antioxidants in your body.
