The Federal Minister of Health of Nigeria, made a Tweet on its official handle on the meeting held between the Honorable Minister of Health (HMH) Dr. E. Osagie Ehanire, Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 (PTFCOVID19) and Northern Traditional Leaders Committee on Primary Health Care delivery for the control of COVID19 pandemic. Dr. Osagie Ehanire state that “COVID19 which was imported into Nigeria about 6 months ago is now in its community transmission phase.”
Dr. E. Osagie Ehanire said: "It has become imperative to mobilize & intensify efforts to curtail COVID19 community transmission which has penetrated our communities in most parts of Nigeria.” He also added that the community transmission phase brings about the need to call for the support of traditional leaders all over the country to advise the public that the pandemic is not yet over and citizens should keep up with the preventive measures of COVID-19.
"The pivotal part traditional & religious leaders played in building community trust & acceptance of the oral polio vaccine was the game changer.” said, Dr. Osagie Ehanire.
The Honorable Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire laud the Northern Traditional Leaders Committee on Primary Health Care Delivery (NTLC) under the guidance of His Eminence, Sultan of Sokoto for this achievement.
"It is the same influence we hope to leverage upon once again in the latest public health challenge Nigeria faces in disease control. I hope that under the leadership of His Eminence & Your Royal Highnesses, we shall witness a reduction in COVID19 very soon". Dr. Osagie Ehanire
His Eminence, Sultan of Sokoto stated that "we now need to check how we carry out this fight against COVID19 & other diseases". He also said “Without thinking twice, the PTFCOVID19 can be rest assured that we will give our best."
