Before we detail the five different belly types, it's important to remember that they all share one trait with regards to fat loss: consuming healthy fats and exercising the deep abdomen are the most beneficial in terms of fat burn.

It's also vital that we recognize the association between belly fat and severe health issues. Research shows that higher levels of abdominal fat are linked to serious health conditions such as cancer, diabetes, and heart disease.

1. Inflated or bloated belly

Such stomach appears because of a bad diet or because of the intolerance of some foods, or allergies. As a rule, the stomach is flat in the morning but appears in the afternoon, because there are too many gases in the intestine and indigestion occurs.

How to get rid of it:

1. Exclude food that doesn't go well with your body. The most common untolerated substance are gluten (bread, pasta, confectionery), alcohol, yeast (cakes, beer), and processed dairy products (cheese, milk, butter).

2. Opt for a diet rich in fresh vegetables, meat, chicken, and fish. Try to avoid bread and pastries for 2 weeks and see if your belly has stopped swelling.

3. Don't skip breakfast.

4. Swelling may be a sign of imbalanced intestinal flora-pre and probiotics are the easiest solution. They are present in sour cream and some fruits and vegetables including cabbage, garlic, and onion. A healthy stomach is a flat stomach.

5. You need to do more cardio exercises and sleep better.

2. Hormonal belly

Hormones levels have a significant influence on weight loss and gain. Ask any person with an interactive thyroid just how hard it is to shed belly fat (it's very hard.)

For both women and men, a low level of the primary hormones estrogen and testosterone (respectively) can lead to more fat stored in the abdomen. Imbalances of either hormone – too high or too low – can sabotage weight loss efforts.

1. Avoid foods high in sugar, trans fat, and refined carbs, which can contribute to weight gain and bloating

2. Drink lots of water to keep your appetite in check and prevent constipation.

3. Boost your intake of fibers – beans, fruits, and vegetables

4. Do some light exercise to keep the stress levels (cortisol) low.

3. Alcohol belly

Also known as the "spare tire," alcohol belly fat isn't flabby like hormone belly fat, but it's just as bad, if not worse. Physiological, drinking slows down your metabolism and increases fat storage. Not to mention that many alcoholic beverages, e.g., beer and wine, contain empty calories – and no nutritional value.

How to get rid of it:

1. Cut down or eliminate alcohol

2. Do some cardiovascular exercise, such as high intensity interval training (HIIT) or fast-paced walking


4. Stress belly

In this belly type, the fat is mostly in the front portion and naval area. It might be hard to touch and this is caused by a high level of stress. You may miss meals, drink lots of coffee, and even experience irritable bowel syndrome. You could be snacking on things with excess salt.

How to get rid of it:

1. Moderate exercise for at least 30 to 45 minutes daily

2. Eat a healthy breakfast to evade mood swings and cravings

3. Eliminate junk food

4. Reduce caffeine intake (it raises cortisol level)

5. Stop overeating

6. Practice meditation or yoga.

5. Mommy belly

If you have a tummy, then you have given birth to a child not so long ago. This may be a serious health condition called diastasis recti, not a cosmetic issue. Many moms experience it, and it causes other health problems like urinary and stress incontinence and digestion issues. Make sure to contact your doctor if you suspect having this issue.

The best way to shed a mommy's belly is to:

1. First, see your doctor to check insulin levels and rule out diabetes.

2. Abstain from crunches or setups, and they can aggregate your abdominal muscles if diastatic recti are present.

3. Go for brisk walks.

4. Do floor exercises that strengthen the core and pelvis.
