7 Signs That You're Depressed And How To Deal With It Without Medication.

My topic today is on Depression.

According to research,

Depression can be seen as a medical condition and not laziness or temporary response to normal grief.

Here are 7 symptoms of Depression;


1: Sleep problems (ie sleeping too much or too little );sleeping mainly during the day.


2: Change in interest (not being interested in what you used to enjoy)or low motivation.


3: Change in appetite (ie eating too much or too little).


4: Significantly low energy or change and self-care( ie not showering anymore).


5: Suicidal thoughts, plans or behaviours -including self harm (intentionally hurting yourself; cutting, burning etc).


6: Excessive guilt or unrealistically low self-image.


7: Agitation or severe anxiety/ panic attack.


Now you know the symptoms of depression some positive coping skills can be useful in overcoming it.


Here are some coping skills;


1: Sleep regularly; Try to keep a regular sleep schedule staying up late one night and then sleeping in excessively the next day is a surefire way to feel depressions. Keep a balance with not too little or not too much sleep. Getting enough sleep isn't only about total hours of sleep. It's also important to get a good quality sleep on a regular schedule so you feel rested when you wake up.


2: Exercise; Doing moderate exercise of 30 minutes regularly can dramatically help your mood.


3: Relationships; Focus on people who lift your up rather than does that bring you down. It's okay to have alone time but do not isolate yourself or the depression will linger.


4: Schedule pleasant activities or events; Don't wait for yourself to be in the mood. Always make time for yourself in all that you do. Take 30 minutes vacation( a healthy hobby everyday). It could be meditation or something else just remember to do them with the right attitude and also practice gratitude. Take time to notice not just what went wrong but also what went well today. Being grateful for your blessings doesn't mean you have to discount your problems.


5: Meaning; Find small ways to be of service to others. Find personal meaning by serving something other than yourself. Remember, service doesn't have to be big to count. Consider this, "success like happiness cannot be pursued; it must be ensue.. as the unintended side effects of one's personal dedication to a course greater than oneself".
