Foods You Should Consume On a Regular Basis To Improve Your Health As You Grow Older

According to an article written by MedicalNewsToday, a balanced diet is the best way to ensure your health. A balanced diet can help supply the body with the nutrients it needs to function properly.

1. Almonds

Calcium, iron, vitamin E, fiber, and magnesium are just some of the nutrients that almonds are rich in. Recent research has shown that eating a handful of almonds daily can significantly reduce total blood cholesterol levels.

2. oatmeal

Oatmeal's popularity has skyrocketed over the past two decades due to the widespread recognition of the health advantages associated with eating it. Soluble fiber in the cereal is beneficial for lowering cholesterol and lowering cardiovascular risk factors, as shown by studies.

Oats are a great source of both complex carbohydrates and soluble fiber. By reducing the rate of digestion, they aid in maintaining healthy blood sugar levels. Potassium and folate are two nutrients that can be found in abundance in oatmeal.

3. Apples

Apples are loaded with antioxidants that work to neutralize potentially harmful free radicals. Toxic molecules called free radicals are created by the body. They cause unwelcome alterations in the body and may speed up the onset of chronic diseases and the aging process.

But, there is evidence from a small number of studies suggesting an antioxidant in apples can help people live longer and reduce their risk of chronic disease according to studies.

4. Berries

High levels of fiber, antioxidants, and phytonutrients can be found in blueberries. When compared to vitamins and minerals, phytonutrients are not strictly necessary for human health. Yet, they may help in avoiding diseases and keeping vital bodily processes running smoothly.

There is some evidence that eating blueberries can protect against memory loss and Alzheimer's disease. What's more, they found that blueberries have potential for helping to lower the risk of cardiovascular disease.

5. Avocado

Due to their high fat content, avocados are often avoided by those who would otherwise enjoy them. Yet, they are rich in beneficial fats and vitamins K, B, and E. Also, they contain a lot of fiber, which is quite beneficial.

The use of avocados was found to elevate HDL ("good") cholesterol levels. High-density lipoprotein cholesterol serves as a "blood cholesterol filter," removing LDL cholesterol from the circulation.

It's possible that avocados contain cancer-fighting properties, too. Scientists found that the extract from avocado seeds, regardless of color, significantly decreased the survival rate of colon and prostate cancer cells. It was unclear from the study, however, if the same effects would be seen in humans.

6. Spinach

You can get the most benefit from the antioxidants in spinach by eating it fresh, steaming, or lightly boiled. Minerals and vitamins like selenium, niacin, zinc, phosphorus, copper, potassium, calcium, manganese, betaine, and iron can be found in it. Vitamins A, B-6, C, E, and K are also present according to studies.
