Meet The Young Female Doctor That Prevented The Spread Coronavirus In Ogun

In 2014 when Patrick Sawyer, who was already infected with Ebola Virus Disease arrived Nigeria and felt unwell. He went to a private hospital for treatment for what he thought was ordinary fever. But thanks to the quick thinking of Dr Stella Adadevoh, Sawyer was restricted from leaving the hospital and invited the authorities.

A similar situation occurred in Ogun state earlier this week. A young female doctor, Dr Amarachukwu Karen Allison who works at the Staff Clinic of Lafarge Nigeria, Ogun State responded swiftly when the index case of coronavirus, who has now recovered and has been discharged, reported to the clinic with symptoms of coronavirus.

Dr Allison was said to have employed her skills and extraordinary compassion to insist that the patient was referred to the Emergency Operations Center where the patient was eventually diagnosed with coronavirus.

If she had left him and treated his symptoms like an ordinary fever, the number of his contacts would have increased and a lot of people might have contracted the infection. Her singular brilliance led to the early diagnosis and rapid containment of the first Covid-19 infection.

While we salute Dr Allison's courage and steadfastness, we must also remember our Ebola Hero, Dr Stella Adadevoh, who lost her life defending the nation.
