NCDC sensitises corps members on COVID-19

The Nigeria Centre For Disease Control (NCDC) has sensitised the 202l Batch B stream 2 corps members on COVID-19, its causes, preventive measures and control techniques that can readily be used to combat its spread. 

The sensitisation lecture which took place on Tuesday, saw the team leader of the NCDC on camp, Mr Razak Fafioye address the members extensively on the COVID-19 disease and the harm it has done to the society.

Mr. Razaq Fafioye gave a brief on the pandemic, which began in November 2019, in Wuhan, China.

He listed signs and symptoms of the disease, steps to prevent it, the nature of the disease, and some of its complications.

Laying more emphasis on the respiratory disease, he said, "the signs and symptoms attached to the virus include fever, cough, tiredness, loss of taste and smell, sour throat, difficulties in breathing, among others."

He noted that the predominant variant of the virus is the known Delta variant which affects unvaccinated people more.

Mr. Fafioye urged Corps members to be vaccinated highlighting the advantages of doing so, thereby erasing the common misconceptions about the vaccine. He also mentioned that the possibility of getting the vaccine on camp sometime during the week is high.

Another member of the NCDC, Dr. Ademola Ayoola, also addressed the Corps Members on the Importance of the vaccine. In his words, "although, vaccines may reduce your chances of infection, always wear face masks, as you could end up getting infected and infecting others."

The State Coordinator, Mr. Ayodele Adegoke while inaugurating the COVID-19 task force, harped on the need for all course participants to comply with the laid down protocols.

He also enlightened corps members on the functions of the COVID-19 Monitoring and Enforcement Committee, comprising of the State Coordinator himself, the Camp Commandant, the Camp Director, Head of Police, Head of Fire Service, NCDC, Red Cross, and the NDLEA, respectively.

The inaugurated NYSC COVID-19 Task Force includes the Head of Camp Security as the Chairman, Staff advisors NCCF, NACC and MCAN, Resident Officer 2 and the leaders of the ten Platoons.

Conclusively, Mr Adegoke inaugurated the NYSC COVID-19 Vanguard which consisted of Hostel Governors and Corps Members that volunteered to be members.

The members of the committee were advised to lead by example and correct in love.
