Health Benefits Of Consuming Resveratrol-rich Foods And 5 Foods You Can Get It From

Many of the foods we eat contain certain nutrients that are not as popular as the likes of the vitamins and minerals, with such nutrients worthy of being called "unsung heroes". Resveratrol is one of such " not-so-popular" nutrients found in some of the foods we eat. It is a part of a group of compounds known as polyphenols, with the compounds touted for their antioxidant properties that help to protect the body against damages.

Due to their powerful antioxidant properties that help to reduce the risk of certain ailments such as some types of cancer and heart disease, resveratrol is often extracted from many foods they are derived from and made into a supplement by many manufacturers. It is known to also possess anti-ageing and disease-fighting effects, in addition to its antiviral, anticancer, and anti-inflammatory effects.

While some of its health benefits have been established to some extent, there is a dearth of data confirming how well resveratrol works. However, early research, according to webMD, shows that resveratrol can grant you certain health benefits which include protecting you from certain ailments. Four (4) of such health benefits are described below:

1. Heart disease - resveratrol helps to protect you against heart disease by reducing inflammation, lowering "bad" LDL cholesterol, and making it more difficult for the formation of clots that cause a heart attack.

2. Cancer - resveratrol is also known to limit the spread of cancer cells within the body and start killing them.

3. Alzheimer's - the antioxidant effects of resveratrol may help to protect nerve cells from damage and fight the buildup of plaque that leads to Alzheimer's disease.

4. Diabetes - when your body becomes resistant to insulin, you become less sensitive to insulin and it can lead to diabetes. Resveratrol helps to prevent this by preventing insulin resistance.

You don't necessarily have to invest your money in buying resveratrol supplements as you can derive this important polyphenol compound in ample quantity in certain foods. A few of the richest dietary sources of resveratrol include the following:

1. Peanuts

2. Grapes

3. Red wine

4. Blueberries
