Dr Ikemba Iweala, a neurosurgeon and the husband to the incredible and successful, economist and international development expert, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.
Not many know him, due to his very private and introverted personality. Mr Iwela is an emergency medicine physician in Washington, District of Columbia where he has been practising for more than 20 years.
Dr. Ikemba Iweala, who is also the chairman of the IKE Foundation for Autism. A Nigerian and Igbo, Ikemba had his early medical training was at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria where he practised briefly before going to further his training at the General Surgery/Trauma and Neurosurgery at the Manchester Royal Infirmary, Manchester and various other hospitals in England.
He also worked at the University of Maryland Medical Systems, Baltimore, where he became a clinical instructor in Emergency Medicine at the George Washington University Hospital in Washington DC.
The couple has four children together. one daughter, Onyinye Iweala (AB, MD, PhD, Harvard) and three sons, Uzodinma Iweala (AB, Harvard, MD, Columbia), also an author of the novel ‘Beasts of No Nation’. Okechukwu Iweala (AB, Harvard) and Uchechi Iweala (AB, MD, MBA, Harvard). All of them, Harvard graduates.
Her mother Kamene Okonjo is a professor & so was her father. Undoubtedly, This family exist to solve the problems of this world.
Former Nigerian Minister of Finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo Iweala and her husband, Ikemba Iweala have been married for 41 years and recently celebrated their wedding anniversary.
