2. Goiter; this is another condition that is responsible for swollen masses in the neck. A goiter is known as an abnormal growth of the thyroid gland and it may be Benign ir associated with increase of decrease in the thyroid hormone. When the goiters enlarges, it can cause difficulty in swallowing things, breathing difficulties and even excessive coughing.

3. Thyroid Gland Cancer; this is another health problem that is capable of causing a mass in the neck. It arises when abnormal cells start growing in the thyroid gland. When the thyroid gland starts forming abnormal cells excessively, the condition can be referred to as thyroid cancer and it can cause swollen lumps in the throat, difficulty swallowing, hoarseness etc.

4. Swollen Lymph Nodes; this is actually the most common reason for lumps in the neck. The lymphatic system is a makeup of the immune system and they often get swollen when the body is fighting an infection or simply as a reaction to something strange in the body. Fortunately, swollen lymph nodes might appear in your neck for more common reasons like flu or when you catch a cold and as such, it's usually nothing so serious to worry about, but there might be need to see a doctor if the swollen lymph nodes are painful or they last for more than a week.
