Beans is one of the common foods, a lot of people eat on a regular basis. This is because it is not only rich in nutrients but also relatively cheap. Although a lot of people have continued to cook beans overtime, they still make mistakes while preparing beans that makes it dangerous for the body.

This is through using the wrong ingredients on the beans thereby making it poisonous for the body. In this article, I will be talking about some Ingredients people use in preparing their beans that could be harmful to the body

1. Potash

Potash is an industrially produced salt. It is an ingredient a lot of people used in the past in preparation of both their soups and other foods. But in recent times, people now use it for various other things like cooking beans.

Potash is used in the current time for fastening the preparation of beans because many people believe it helps in softening the beans before it is actually cooked.

Although this might be true, potash has a lot of disadvantages it brings to the body. Some of which include irritation, diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal discomfort and other effects.

Research also suggest that it could also have an effect in the liver as well.

2. Alum

Alum is another Ingredient a lot of people use in preparation of food. They believe it has the same effect on the body like potash when taken in excess.

Alum is added to beans and meat to soften it but it takes a toll on the health of the liver and generally the immune system. According to research, It could cause throat swelling, skin ulcer, a shallow ulcer on the skin, fainting etc.
