How to interpret dreams

From the Bible, we know that one of the most effective ways God speak to his people is via dreams. However, while God is consistent in speaking to us through this channel, many do not understand. This has brought a lot of avoidable bad omens and mistakes happen in the life of God’s people.

It is important to note that there is an agency in the Spirit that helps us to understand the mind of God, and He has been commissioned to help us understand when God speaks to us via any channel; and this agency is the Holy Spirit.

Below are some practicable steps you can employ to interpret your dreams without always having to look for an interpreter.

For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. — 1 Corinthians 10:11

But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. — 1 Corinthians 2:14

Write it down

When you wake up from the dream, simply write it down first so you don’t forget them. This is very important because forgetting the dream may be very unfortunate especially if it is a bad dream. Even if you sleep off, you can always revert back to it when you wake up in the morning. Hence it is important to keep a book close to your bed together with your bible.

Ponder on the Dream

Ponder over the dream again and again paying close attention to the still small voice in your spirit. Don’t be hasty in just rushing to pray about it when you don’t yet understand it and it will not be targeted to addressing the issue. Sometimes not all dreams are meant to be cancelled or rejected, some may be God given you directions and instructions concerning certain endeavors that you have asked him about. Hence the need to meditate on them.

Pray About it

Address every negative dream with holy anger and fire. Refuse to be a victim of any plans of the devil or his agents. Commission angels to go into battle and frustrate the devices of the crafty; command their enterprise to fail according to the word of the Lord.

Search for Scriptural References

Look for scriptures that may reflect the dream; although not all dreams have corresponding scriptures but there are scriptures you can pray with.

Ask the following questions

What is the central focus of the dream?

Was I an observer in the dream?

Who and who did I see in the dream; what role did they play in the dream and what do they represent?

What was the location of the dream?

Is the dream about the past, present or future?

What was said in the dream? This is very important

Asking these questions and more helps you pray effectively.

There may be several interpretations

Don’t limit yourself to one meaning as the Holy Spirit be say different things using the same method. He cannot be limited or restricted to a particular pattern or interpretation which leads us to the last one.

The Holy Spirit is the Interpreter

Whatever interpretation of dreams you might have read about from the previous publication I’ve made here, they are all subject to the verification of the Holy Spirit for you cannot use the energy of the flesh to run the race of the Spirit.
