If you love chewing gum or you know of anyone who loves it, then this is for you to know.
Chewing Gums: Original gums were said to be made from the sap of trees. However, in our world today, most chewing gums in the markets are made from synthetic rubbers.
Chewing gum is a soft, rubber-like substance that's designed to be chewed but not swallowed. It can come in any colour, white, yellow, purple, green, lemon etc
Recipes can vary between brands, but all chewing gums have the following basic ingredients:
Gum which makes it chewy.
Resin: This adds quality and firmness to the gum.
Fillers: Fillers gives gum texture.
Preservatives: common with many products in the markets too, these are added to extend shelf life.
Softeners: These are used to retain moisture and prevent the gum from hardening.
Sweeteners: Though i am aware of sugar free gums, popular ones however include sugar cane, beet sugar and corn syrup.
Flavorings: Added to give a desired flavor. They can be natural or synthetic.
It is good to note has well that most chewing gum manufacturers keep their exact recipes a secure from public consumption.
The side effects of chewing gum includes:
1. Toothache
2. Tooth decay
3. Tooth outright loss
4. Unhealthy tooth gum
5. Mouth odour; to mention, but few.
You will just have to avoid chewing gum outrightly for your own good.
It is good to add here that many are so addicted to chewing gum that even after being told the need to stop it due to medical and dental issues as stated above, they still find it hard to stop. I know of a case, this brother had two teeth removed from his mouth already as a result of chewing gum, yet he still continue in the habit. That is addiction! He can't help it, one will think the female folks should be the ones struggling but this brother's case was different. Beware!
