4 Important things you should know about Hodgkin's lymphoma

Hodgkin Lymphoma (also called Hodgkin’s Disease) is still a mystery to a lot of people. Hodgkin's lymphoma is a form of cancer that affects lymph nodes by affecting basic variants of B-type Lymphocytes, which are essential units of the human immune system. There are a few things to know about the disease.

There are two main types of Hodgkin's lymphoma. The first and the most popular one is classical lymphoma. This is a fast-growing lymphoma. The second type is the nodular lymphocyte-predominant Hodgkins lymphoma which is slow-growing.

One thing to know about Hodgkin’s Lymphoma is that more men suffer from the disease than women, and it is more common among children and young adults between ages 15-30 as compared to the elderly.

Another thing to know is that certain factors such as a family history of the disease as exposure to the Epstein-Barr virus increase your risk of Hodgkin's lymphoma.

Also, common symptoms that are directly linked to Hodgkin’s Lymphoma are painless Swollen Lymph Nodes(In the neck, underarm, or groin), constant fever with night sweats, persistent weight loss. If one is more of these symptoms is noticed, please consult a doctor as soon as possible.

Finally, Hodgkin's Lymphoma is a cancer condition with at least an 80% chance of getting cured with appropriate treatment. Treatment may include radiation therapy and chemotherapy. In most cases, doctors use a combination of both treatments.
