Preparing for pregnancy

Know when to have sex without protection and not get pregnant

Sex is a way of establishing intimacy between two consenting adults in a relationship (either married or single). But different partners have a way of enjoying it - some people prefer it without protection while others would prefer it with protection for various reasons. Which ever method a couple prefer has its own advantages and disadvantages.

For those who would prefer it with protection, it protects them from sexually transmitted diseases like HIV, hepatitis B and C, and most importantly, unwanted pregnancy. For those who would prefer it without protection, they are exposed to asexually transmitted diseases, but this can be prevented by being faithful to each other, and there is the risk of unwanted pregnancy. This is the area we will be focusing in this write up.

Sex is sweet, but it is sweeter when it is done without any form of barrier like condom but this comes with the risk of pregnancy. This risk of pregnancy can be avoided if the girl and her partner know her menstrual cycle very well, because there are days within the cycle when a woman can never get pregnant if she engages in unprotected sex. Menstrual cycle is a regular monthly changes that occur in adult women, especially the reproductive system which begins with the usual bleeding (known as the period).

The normal menstrual cycle has a 28 days period. Out of this 28 days, the woman has 7days within which she is not free to engage in unprotected sex else, she gets pregnant. This is referred to as the danger period, the remaining days are free for unprotected sex. How do you calculate for this period and know it? Its very simple. The 7 days danger period is calculated by adding the 3 days before the ovulation day, and adding 3 days after the ovulation day, making it 7 days.

But how do you know your ovulation day? For a 28 days cycle, the ovulation day is on the 14th day. Remember the menstrual cycle starts from the first day of the bleeding. From that day till the 14th day - that is the ovulation day. If you are able to get the ovulation day, add the 3 days before that day, and add 3 days after that day to it to get the 7 days danger period, which is the period a woman is most likely to get pregnant. The remaining 21 days is regarded as the free period. Within this period, a woman can engage in unprotected sex without the fear of unwanted pregnancy. It is good for both the guys and the ladies to know this to avoid had I known. Also, it will be of help to married couple who are looking for child to know when their chances of getting a pregnancy is highest.
