The National Center for Disease and control (NCDC) who ordinarily should be at front burner at the National dailies dishing out uncompromised day-to-day report on the confirmed case of COVID-19 has in recent times raised eyebrows on the transparency of their daily report on the pandemic .
This was seen in a recent fracas which broke out between the disease control agency and the Nigerian Ports Authority following a Twitter thread made by the NCDC verified handle on Thursday March 27, 2020 by 7:35pm.
According to the post, it stated :
Hours later, another update by the agency surfaced online, contradicting the earlier report by stating that
"out of the14 new confirmed cases recorded, 1 was from FCT as against the the 2 earlier reported , 1 confirmed case was recorded in Bauchi, and 2 cases were from close contact of a confirm case".
However, the report still reiterated that a number of 6 confirmed cases was detected from a vessel stored at the Nigerian Port Authority.
The Nigeria Port Authority in its reply to the tweet through their official Twitter handle said
"that they are unaware of any unconfirmed cases to date".
The Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority ms. Hadiza Balla Usman on Friday March, 27, 2020 affirmed that the port health officials have been mandated to be at alert and report any cases of Coronavirus.
She also said that drastic measures such as immediate assessment of crews and cargoes before they disembark from vessels have been put in place to ensure safety.
