I know some of you have never even pondered on whether these mosquitoes that bite you almost everyday have any use.
Every living thing as role to play in life and that includes even mosquitoes. There is not so much love between human and mosquitoes. Mosquitoes are deadly insects which causes different diseases. Hundreds of thousands of people die each year due to malaria, dengue fever, yellow fever and zika virus after being bitten by these deadly bloodsucking mosquitoes. Mosquitoes also carries diseases which pose different kinds of treat to livestock and our pets.
Fact: only the female mosquito of some species feed on blood of humans and animals
We have different species of mosquitoes, some of which are not bloodsuckers of both humans and animals such as lizards or birds. Only females of some species need a meal of blood to be able to lay their eggs(larvae). Nevertheless in as much as their harmful to man they are also beneficiary to man and the environment in the following ways.
1. Mosquitoes are pollinators
As I earlier said not all mosquitoes are bloodsuckers, some adult male and female mosquitoes feed on the nectar of flowers, this in turn causing pollination of plants.
2. Mosquitoes help clean our waters
The female mosquitoes lay eggs on stagnant waters, these eggs are called larvae. The larvae feed on detritus and other small micro organisms in water thereby making the water clean but not 99% percent clean. It is not safe for drinking!!!
3. Medical testing
Although the mosquitoes has been known vectors for spreading diseases all over the world. Scientist have being researching on mosquitoes and it had been said that there was a hope that mosquito saliva may have some potential use for the treatment of the cardiovascular disease which is a No1. worldwide killer of humans . And it has been said that there was actually a possibility of developing anticlotting drugs, this will be very useful for man to help blood clot faster.
You see mosquitoes are not all annoying or useless, the actually important to us.
