Constipation: Simple remedies to make bowel movement easier

Once in a while, there seems to be a digestive traffic jam that can be very discomforting. When trying to compare between constipation or the opposite, none is better. To avoid being constipated, you need to make some lifestyle changes and gain control over your digestive system.

Constipation is amongst the most common gastrointestinal problems affecting the very young, including babies, young children, and also the elderly ones.

It is characterized by firm and fewer than three times a week (infrequent) bowel movements, often accompanied by straining. If you consistently strain when you pass a stool you could be at risk of having complications such as hemorrhoids.

Simple remedies to make bowel movement easier:

Have your fruits and vegetables

The festive season is here, times when people fill up with meat and foods less in fiber, this can make passage of stool very difficult. Fresh fruits such as watermelon, pawpaw, pineapple, local pear all help fight constipation naturally, they have water and fiber. Increasing your intake of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains can help move things through your digestive tract.

Drink enough water

Drinking enough water, about 8 cups of water daily can be helpful. If you don’t like plain water? Try infused water such as adding lemon slices into it. Fiber-rich smoothies, juices, water-rich fruits, and soups are also good ways to stay hydrated.

Walk around and be active

Brisk walking or aerobics can help encourage active bowel movement. Few minutes of being active can help your tract a lot. Physical activity is very important to keep waste moving through the digestive tract.

Check out the prescription for any medication to be taken

Certain drugs such as antihistamines can slow down your bowel function. Likewise, over-the-counter antacids and iron tablets can make you be constipated. My candid advice: read drug labels and if constipation is listed as a potential side effect, make sure you get lots of fiber and water.
