The brain is the centre of all our actions and when this brain is affected it could lead to one thing or the other and can even cause death. So we need to take care of our brains to prevent complications. Some foods are dangerous to the brain and these foods should be avoided at all costs. Below are 5 foods we should avoid eating for the sake of our brains.

1. Fish Containing High Mercury Content.

Fish is very important to the brain and one should ensure that it is added to his or her diet. But not all fishes are healthy to our brains, fishes that contain a high amount of mercury are dangerous to the body. Mercury is a heavy metal contaminant that possesses destructive properties to the brain.

When these mercury infested fishes are ingested it spreads to all parts of the body like the livers, kidneys, placenta of pregnant women to cause damage.

It destroys the central nervous system and also neurotransmitters of the brain leading to cerebral palsy and even brain death.

2. Refined Carbohydrates.

Refined carbohydrates are high in glycemic index and glycemic load examples are sugar, processed grains.

This kind of food can lead to memory loss both in children and in adults, this occurs as a result of inflammation of the hippocampus(Part of the brain responsible for memory).

3. Foods That Are High In Trans Fats.

Foods that are high in trans fat are dangerous to the brain. Trans fats are present in the body but the ones that are processed are dangerous like refined vegetable oils. These foods can cause memory loss and Alzheimer's disease.

4. Alcohol.

Excessive intake of alcohol can lead to brain damage, reduction in brain volume, and can also disrupt the activities of neurotransmitters in the brain.

Alcohol leads to deficiency of vitamin B1 which causes Wernicke's encephalopathy( its symptoms are memory loss, vision impairment and unsteadiness. It causes fetal Alcohol syndrome.

5. Refined Foods.

Refined foods are dangerous to be brain and these foods should be avoided at all costs. An example is microwave popcorn which contains diacetyl this compound increases amyloid plaques in the brain.
