A Must Read: Zobo (Hibiscus Tea) And Your Foetus

I have heard a lot of women saying they had miscarriage after consuming Hibiscus tea; popularly known as Zobo.

Hibiscus tea is highly rich in vitamin C, minerals, antioxidant, protocatechuic acid and flavonoids. It is an herbal tea made as an infusion from crimson or deep magenta-colored calyces (sepals) of the roselle (Hibiscus sabdariffa) flower. It is consumed both hot and cold. It has a tart, cranberry-like flavor.

According to the study from Guru Jambheshwar university of science and technology in India, Hibiscus tea extract may influence estrogen level and prevent implantation and pregnancy. Avoid drinking hibiscus tea during first trimester of pregnancy due to herb possible interference with hormonal activity. Drinking hibiscus tea during your first trimester of pregnancy increase the risk of several complication because it could induce your uterus to begin contracting which could lead to miscarriage.

After the first trimester when the pregnancy is established, hibiscus tea may be safe for pregnant women and could deliver some potential benefits.

Hibiscus tea can be used as a natural birth control, to prevent pregnancy.
