6 Foods That May Help To Revitalise Your Kidney Which You Should Eat More Often

The kidneys are a pair of two bean-shaped organs located on either side of the spine at the lowest level of the rib cage, with each of the two kidneys containing up to a million functioning units called nephrons. The major function of the kidneys is the removal of waste and extra fluid from the body through urine, balancing the body's fluid and mineral levels, as well as the synthesis of the hormone that regulates blood pressure.

However, when the kidneys start developing certain issues which could potentially lead to chronic kidney disease, the kidneys would then become unable to remove waste products from the body system the way two healthy kidneys would do. This would then require constant tracking of food and fluid intake to prevent the accumulation of their end products in the body and eating more of certain foods that can help repair the kidneys.

Such foods would not only help repair your kidneys but would also protect them from further damage and keep the body healthier for a long time. A few examples of such foods are described below:

1. Apples

It is often said that "an apple a day can help keep the doctor away" and this is due to the nutritional qualities of the fruit. They are a good source of a soluble fibre called pectin, which helps in lowering cholesterol and glucose levels. They are also rich in vitamin C and possessed high antioxidant properties.

2. Blueberries

Blueberries are low in phosphorus, potassium and sodium, three minerals whose presence is linked to kidney disease. Apart from this, they are rich in many essential nutrients including antioxidants called anthocyanins which protect against heart disease, cancer and diabetes.

3. Red Grapes

Red grapes are nutrient-dense fruits with a high vitamin C content and they also possess a powerful antioxidant compound called flavonoids which helps to reduce inflammation in the body. In addition to this, their sodium, phosphorus, and potassium content are low.

4. Kale

Kale is considered the healthiest leafy green vegetable due to its rich nutrient profile that includes nutrients such as vitamins A, C and K, a natural blood thinner. It also contains calcium, carotenoids and flavonoids, which are beneficial for eye health and cancer protection.

5. Garlic

Garlic is another low-sodium food that can help to revitalise the kidneys. It is rich in manganese, vitamin C, and vitamin B6 and in addition to those, also contains certain sulfur compounds which are known to possess anti-inflammatory properties.

6. Spinach

Spinach is another nutrient-dense vegetable rich in many essential nutrients. It is particularly rich in vitamins A, C, and K and folate, and its beta-carotene content is a known booster of immunity and can also protect vision.

Other kidney-friendly foods that can help revitalise the kidneys include olive oil, cabbage, bell peppers, onions, and pineapple.
