5 Foods You Shouldn’t Eat If You Are Having Diarrhea

Diarrhea is commonly referred to as, running stomach or, purging in Nigeria. According to Medicalnewstoday, diarrhea Is a bowel movement that is more liquid than solid or, has a loose texture.

Purging is considered to be a common problem which affects everybody and can occur a number of times in a year. People who are having diarrhea will have to eat and and drink regularly to replenish their bodies.

However many people make the mistake of consuming foods and drinks that will end up make their diarrhea worse. There are some foods you should avoid if you are having diarrhea because, those foods will make your conditions worse.

Here Are Five Foods You Should Never Eat If You Are Having Diarrhea (Purging)

1. Fried Foods: frying is one of the most popular methods of cooking in Nigeria and other parts of the world. Fried foods are foods that are cooked with oil instead of water.

Fried foods contains a lot of fats and oil which makes it bad for people who are purging. Fried foods makes it difficult for the digestive system to process which makes the diarrhea worse.

2. Spicy Foods: sometimes spicy foods can do more harm than good. Spicy foods are foods that are cooked with a lot of spices for example, commercial foods are usually cooked with a lot spices most of which are, artificial.

Some spices can cause irritation in the digestive system which can increase the severity of the diarrhea.

3. Sugary Foods: eating sugary foods when you are purging is a bad idea that will only make your situation worse. Sugary foods includes; high sugar fruits, soft drinks etc.

According to Medicalnewstoday, sugary foods can agitate the already sensitive bacteria thereby, making diarrhea worse. Sugary foods can also act as laxatives which will make the diarrhea more severe.

4. Foods That Have High Fiber: usually medical experts recommend high fiber foods for people who are suffering from constipation which is why, people who are suffering from diarrhea should not eat foods that contain a lot of fiber.

Insoluble fibers like, whole grains can make the digestive system more active which will make the purging worse.

5. Diary Products And Caffeinated Drinks : dairy products are animal products. The most popular diary product is probably milk. People who are having diarrhea should avoid diary products like milk.

Caffeinated drinks like caffeinated tea and caffeinated coffee can also make the digestive system more active which will aggravate the diarrhea.

Other foods people who are having diarrhea should avoid includes; onion, raw vegetables, cabbage and citrus fruits like oranges.
