This is the season of corn also known as maize so I decided to do a research on the amazing health benefits. I was so amazed when I found out it is packed with numerous health benefits. However you love it, boiled, roasted, processed into corn flour or corn oil it is still very beneficial. Let's see some of the health benefits of this healthy crop.

Corn reduces the risk of cancer.

It helps to reduce risks of various cancers like colon and lung cancer. Since they're rich in fibre, they reduce cholesterol levels which in turn reduces the risk of colon cancer. They're a good source of ferulic acid which plays a vital role in stopping cancers. There is also a compound in corn, beta- cryptoxanthin which promotes lung health and fights against lungs cancer. If you want to prevent the risk the cancer, use corn oil as an optional oil when cooking.

Corn against diabetes.

Corn have active compound called polyphenols which is considered helpful in the fight for type 2 diabetes. So if you're diabetic you can add corn to your diet. These polyphenols acts by decreasing high blood sugar. Since a diabetes patient is deficient in insulin, eating maize isn't bad because it improves insulin production and insulin sensitivity to convert blood sugar.

Corn helps to improve eye health.

Poor vision or poor eye health leading to conditions like cataract can be caused by many factors including old age and poor eating habits. Maize or corn are rich in Lutein and zeaxanthin which helps to boast eye health. These carotenoids helps to also reduce cataract risk and macular degeneration.

Rich in manganese.

Manganese is a mineral that is found in various foods including nuts, seeds and green vegetables. The health benefits of manganese cannot be over emphasized as it helps in fighting numerous health problem.
