The Variant of The COVID-19 Discovered in Nigeria Is Responsible For Spike In About 98 Countries.

The Nigerian government yesterday said that a new case of the deadly delta variant of the COVID-19 virus has been recorded in a traveller in the country

The delta variant, tagged SARS-CoV-2, and also known as lineage B.1.617.2., is described as the "most transmissible variant" of the covid-19 virus by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

According to the global body, the delta variant is responsible for the spike in about 98 countries around the world where it has been recorded.

It is not yet confirmed by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) how the new delta variant reacts to the vaccines in circulation, but everyone has been urged by the Director-General of NCDC, Dr. Chikwe Iheskweazu, not to forget to be careful and adhere to the public health social measures; getting vaccinated if you are eligible and getting tested if you have symptoms.

With the level of alertness in the country as regards the outbreak of the novel corona virus, I think Nigerians would do well enough to stay safe. Therefore, no cause for panicking, for now.
