The heart happens to be one of the most important organs in the human body. It is important because of the numerous roles it plays in the body coupled with the fact that the heart spearheads the effective pumping of blood all through the body and as such, if anything happens to the heart, it is often regarded as a medical emergency.

Heart Failure is a health condition that arises when the heart muscle doesn't pump blood as well as it should. When this happens, the blood often backs up in a person's lungs causing shortness of breath and many other disturbing signs and symptoms. There are other things that also cause blood to back up or make the muscles unable to effectively pump blood and they include, high blood pressure, narrowed arteries etc.

Heart Failure can be ongoing i.e. chronic or sometimes sudden. But the truth is that, whichever one it may be, herat failure is not something to even take for granted in anyway. Reason being that it can cause fatality. Below are some of the signs if heart failure that should not be taken for granted.

1. Shortness Of Breath When Lying Down; this is one of the signs of heart failure that should not be taken for granted. If you start finding it difficult breathing well, there is every possibility that your heart is failing especially if it often occurs when you are either doing an activity or simply trying to rest, you may need to consult a health specialist.

2. Swelling in the Legs, Ankles Or Feet; this is professionally referred to as edema and it is the accumulation of fluid in the lower extremities. In some cases, it is due to excess consumption of salt and in some cases it can be due to kidney, liver or any other problem of the organs that help in waste removal. Edema can also happen due to heart failure and this is perhaps one of the most serious signs of heart failure and should be examined immediately.

3. Persistent Cough With White or Pink Blood-Tinged mucus; if you start coughing especially suddenly and the mucus that often comes out looking pink or white with blood in it, you may need to see a doctor to confirm what is actually wrong with you. This is because persistent cough is a sign with blood tinged mucus is a sign of heart failure and the earlier you get checked the better for you.

4. Fatigue and Weakness; a person about to have a heart failure or whose heart is failing would start feeling overly weak and tired. This is not for no cause, the heart literally controls everything in the human body one way or another and when it start failing, the next thing you will notice is constant weakness and tiredness. If you start feeling unnecessarily tired and also sleepy coupled with shortness of breath, do well to see a doctor.
