The food is popular and is known as oatmeal. A lot of people know of it and would eat it every day but most of them actually do not know it's potential benefits.

Eating this food every morning can help protect the heart by reducing the chances of having it get infected by one disease or another. This is because oat helps reduce the risk factors of a disease of the arteries known as atherosclerosis.

Atherosclerosis is the foundation of most heart diseases. It occurs as a result of plaques formed by fats getting logged in the arteries. These plaques would clog the arteries obstructing the movement of blood and in the apex of it, they would block such arteries that blood no longer passes through. This would result to stroke when an artery to the brain is blocked. Myocardial infarction, when an artery supplying the heart muscles is blocked.

Eating oats helps save the heart from such conditions as it's fibre content helps control the blood cholesterol levels reducing the chances of accumulation of bad cholesterol in the blood.

Oat also contains some group of antioxidants known as avenanthramides. These antioxidants are capable of inhibiting the production of 'cytokines' which are inflammatory proteins.

They are also capable of inhibiting the production of adhesion molecules. Adhesion molecules would make it easier for the plaques to gum on the walls of arteries but inhibiting their production would resist this effect, thus making the arteries free from debris, thus promoting free flow of blood.
