This is to say that, one of the top risk factors for developing type 2 diabetes is being overweight, since this excess fat around the organs in your belly is linked to insulin resistance, (a condition where your body’s cells do not respond well to insulin).

While, insulin is a hormone that moves sugar out of your blood and into your cells.

However, when you have insulin resistance, your body signals to your pancreas to release higher amounts of insulin to lower your blood sugar. Eventually, your pancreas is no longer able to produce enough insulin to keep your blood sugars under control.

This inturn causes you to develop diabetes, a condition characterized by high blood sugar levels.
