Diabetes: 4 Foods That Must Be Avoided For Good Health

Diabetes is a lifestyle chronic condition that has been affecting both adults and children. 

Diabetes means high blood sugar levels that do not occur due to an underlying condition in a person. Your lifestyle and diet play a major role in influencing the glucose levels. 

Having too many carbs can be one of the main causes of high blood sugar, which leads to diabetes gradually. You can control it by taking and avoiding certain foods. 

Uncontrolled diabetes can cause several serious health problems, including cardiovascular disease, kidney disease, blindness, and some other complications. Eating certain foods can increase your blood sugar and glucose levels and lead to inflammation, which can increase your risk of disease.

In this condition, the body is not able to regulate the amount of glucose (sugar) in the blood. Doctors ask diabetic patients to follow a healthy and balanced diet to control the glucose levels in the bloodstream. 

Healthy eating includes a wide variety of foods such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, non fat dairy products and lean meats. 

When we talk about a diabetic diet, it is said that any healthy diet is a diabetic diet.

There are no foods that should be completely avoided in diabetes. But, there are some foods that need to be taken in a restricted amount. 

All fruits and vegetables should be consumed by a diabetic patient, but it is the amount of carbohydrates that matter. One should have good amount of complex carbohydrates and protein and balance is the key when you want to control your diabetes. 

Here are some foods to avoid in diabetes: 

1. Refined carbohydrates (white bread and biscuits) : Any foods that have refined carbohydrates should be avoided in your daily diet routine.

These food items include breads, biscuits and dishes made from refined flour. And, do not go for white bread. You should try to eat wholewheat bread instead. 

It is beneficial for your overall health and can control diabetes effectively as refined flour bread contains a lot of carbohydrates.

2. Sugar: Sugary foods and drinks can increase your insulin levels rapidly and cause problems.

Even if you are adding the sugar into your tea or coffee, it should be consumed in small quantities as per your doctor or dietician. 

To keep the blood sugar levels controlled, it is best to have lots of water and replace high sugar foods with healthier options.

3. Fried foods: Fried foods are high in carbs and should be avoided by diabetics and people who are trying to lose weight. Deep fried foods can promote inflammation and increase the risk of this disease.

Therefore, foods such as french fries, fried chips, deep fried chicken or turkey should be avoided as much as possible. Instead you can have your favourite poultry meat cooked or grilled. 

4. Carbonated Drinks: Carbonated drinks are the worst beverage preference for a person suffering from diabetes. 

These drinks should be strictly avoided by diabetics as they contain to many carbohydrates and sugar. It can even put you at risk of this disease. You can replace these drinks with healthier alternatives such as green tea, fresh fruit juices like orange and watermelon.
