Government plants 7.5 million trees in Lagos

The Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tunji Bello, has said that over 7.5 million trees have been planted in Lagos State in the previous nine years. 

He said this in Lagos at the 2020 Tree Planting Day which held at the Infectious Disease Hospital, Yaba. 

Bello said tree planting was one of the conscious environmental change proportions of the current government. 

"Till date, over 7.5 million trees have been planted since Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency was set up in 2011," he said. 

He noticed this was in accordance with the thirteenth objective of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal to battle environmental change and its effects. 

The General Manager, LASPARK, Mrs Adetoun Popoola, expressed gratitude toward the senator for his help and duty towards the accomplishment of a solid and practical condition. 

She likewise valued the cutting edge legends for their penance and commitment. 

"Much the same as trees, you give us expectation and mental fortitude to continue on even in the harshest condition," Popoola said. 

She urged Lagosians to proceed with the way of life of planting trees as an inheritance to spare the planet. 

Remarking on the COVID-19 pandemic, the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, said the pandemic couldn't turn into a reason for removing consideration from the issue of environmental change and ecological maintainability. 

He guaranteed that Lagos State would keep on being at the front line of manageable atmosphere activity in Nigeria and Africa, and urged residents to contribute emphatically to the reason. 

Sanwo-Olu devoted the current year's version of the tree planting effort to the respect of forefront clinical faculty for their courage and penances. 

He stated, "We are planting trees today to celebrate and bolster our wellbeing laborers."
