Justice Inyang Ekwo, in the adjourned meeting of today to deliberate on the charges of fraud against the former aviation minister and eight others, who didn't not appear before the court, warned to issue a warrant to arrest Stella Oduah, if she fails to appear in the high court by the next adjourned date on the charges against her.
According to the The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), it is reported that the court had earlier fixed Feb. 9 for the arraignment of the former minister and eight others, but the fact that Stella Oduah, who is currently representing Anambra North Senatorial District at the National Assembly, was not served with the court processes on time, she could not attend.
Again, she and the other eight was served another date, April 19, by the Justice house for the arraignment but due to the strike by the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), the hearing could not hold.
Recall that EFCC had alleged that Stella Oduah misappropriated public funds worth N5 billion while serving as Minister of Aviation, and had since been on the anti-corruption radar to bring her to justice.
Misappropriation of public funds is a public offence that deserves capital punishment, to deter other likely offenders and ensure transparency and accountability by public office holders. Stella Oduah, even as a Senator should give account of how such public funds got missing and proof her innocence. The EFCC on their path, must be clear of their objectives in fighting corruption and not limit to particular sections of people but across every political officer holder irrespective of party affiliation.
May God help Nigeria.
