Lai Mohammed Breaks Silence, Says That EndSARS Protest, Others Made Twitter Shun Nigeria For Ghana

On Thursday, the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed react to the choice of Twitter to have its African Headquarters in Ghana and reasons behind such development.

Lai Mohammed made it known that Twitter's decision to locate its African office in Ghana is not for commercial or business purpose hence Nigerians should not disturb themselves much about it.

He said that truly everyone would have expected Twitter to choose Nigeria as its hub in Africa because of the about 30million users compared to the 8million users in Ghana but twitter has the authority to choose wherever is convenient to site its office.

However, the Minister while acknowledging the fact that some Nigerians have taken to the social media to condemn the government for being responsible said Nigerians are the ones to be held responsible for the development.

He started by saying that the reason why Twitter opt for Ghana was because some Nigerians have often taken to the Social media to outshine one another in the bid to make the International community see Nigeria as a place not good for individual or businesses to thrive.

Speaking on how some Nigerians and media have spoiled the name of the country, the minister stated that even though the country is facing a lot, some people exaggerating it beyond reasonable extent have added to the woes of the country.

To Buttress his point, Lai Mohammed pointed out what Happened during the EndSARS Protest and how the issue affected Nigeria. He said that some Nigerians took to the social media with the help of local and new media to paint the scenario beyond what it was and that's what contributed to Twitter's decision to choose Ghana over Nigeria.

Speaking on the investigation done by the US, the Minister said that he is happy because the US report stated that there has not been any form of evidence found to back up the claim that there was genocide at Lekki toll gate as widely publicized by people.

While sending a word of advise, he said that Nigerians should desist from painting the image of the country bad because the International community noticed all and such will continue to devalue the country in the international space.

He added that the Job opportunities and Popularity of Twitter coming to Nigeria would have been massive but since the owners of the house had destroyed it, then it is what outsiders see they will use in judging.
