Rufus Giwa Poly Staff To Commence Strike On Friday Over 11 Months Salary Unpaid

The staff of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, Ondo State, on Thursday, resolved to embark on indefinite strike from Friday 15th of October, 2021, to press home their demand over their eleven months salary unpaid.

According to the Chairman of the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Polytechnics, Rufus Giwa chapter, Mr Chris Olowolade, the workers resolved to embark on the strike following the insensitive attitude of the state-owned institution's management to the plight of the workers over their eleven months salary unpaid.

" The management of this institution is owing us a backlog of salary, aside from the 11 months salary arrears, we have three months promotion arrears. The last promotion was done in 2018, now we are in 2021." Said Olowolade.

He said further, " When you are in an office without moving forward, the motivation would not be there. Also the management has not been recognising the unions as core stakeholders in the scheme of things in the campus, this and many other issues but the salary is the major reason."

Moreso, the Chairman of the Non-Academic Staff Union of the polytechnic, Mr Adebayo Obayoriade , disclosed that the leadership of the institution's unions had met with the management of the school to find lasting solution to the lingering problem, but no positive response from the management.

Meanwhile, in reaction to the unions' decision to embark on strike, the Public Relations Officer of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Mr Samuel Ojo, said that the situation was under control.
