End SARS: Odumosu reveals why he ordered policemen to tear gas protesters

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police (CP), Hakeem Odumosu, has disclosed why he ordered his men to tear gas #EndSARSMemorial protesters at the Lekki Toll Gate.

According to him, the protesters went against the promise earlier made that the procession will start by 8 am and end by 10 am. He added that any demonstration beyond the agreed time is constituting a nuisance and will not be tolerated. "The protest was between 8 am and 10 am, anything, after 10 am, is a nuisance. I discussed with them and they said they will end the protest by 10 o’clock. Other people doing it now are just causing a nuisance. some with machete & hammer, are they protesters or miscreants?

The police commissioner made this statement while speaking with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), on Wednesday, 20th October, 2021.

Recall that, Hakeem Odumosu, had earlier warned citizens of Lagos State, not to stage any protest in the state.

According to him, the position of the police banning all forms of protests is still in order. "Our position against protests for the mow still stands, and we will issue a statement on that soon," he said.

He however, noted that anyone caught, would be apprehended and prosecuted.
