Obey Rule Of Law—Falana To ECOWAS

Human rights lawyer Femi Falana, SAN has urged Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) leaders to “obey the rule of law, and uphold the principles of democracy and good governance.”

Falana said this yesterday in a paper presented at the International Conference hosted by the Community Court of Justice, at Banjul, The Gambia.

According to Falana, “the establishment of the rule of law in the sub-region requires the development of a relatively autonomous institutional legal and judicial structure at the national level to counterbalance the political power of the authorities across the sub-region.”

Falana said, “the national judicial systems of member states should be strengthened to render justice to all aggrieved individuals and corporate bodies.”

Alleged Assault: Seun Kuti Released On Bail

Afrobeat star Seun Kuti has been released from police custody after meeting his bail conditions.

His lawyer Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika (SAN) confirmed that he was released around 7.30 pm Tuesday.

According to him, the singer was released to his family after meeting his bail conditions.

They also confirmed that he would be at the magistrate court tomorrow for the proceedings which was adjourned today. The purpose of that proceeding is to receive the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP)’s advice.

Earlier today, the Chief Magistrates Court sitting in the Yaba area of Lagos failed to sit in the case against Seun Kuti.

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has boasted about his cordial relationship with neighbouring country Niger Republic.

Buhari, whose tenure ends in six days, attributed his confidence in the country’s defence to the cordial relationship he enjoys with them. He said if Nigerians make the country difficult to live in after the handover ceremony scheduled for May 29, Niger will come to his aid.

The president made this known during the inauguration of the N19.6 billion Nigeria Customs Service Corporate Headquarters in Abuja, on Tuesday.

President Buhari, during his speech at the inauguration ceremony, also noted that he plans on relocating to his country home in Daura, which is far away from Abuja and closer to the Niger Republic.
