The Federal Government has insisted that protesters were not shot at Lekki Tollgate in Lagos on October 20, 2020.

EndSARS protesters, who were demonstrating against police brutality, were forcefully dispersed by security operatives exactly a year ago.

While the protest organisers had insisted that some protesters were killed, the Federal Government had dismissed reports of the killings.

At a press briefing in Abuja on Wednesday, Lai Mohammed, Minister of Information, said a year after the incident, no evidence that people were killed.

“Today marks the first anniversary of the phantom massacre at Lekki Toll Gate in Lagos, which was the culmination of an otherwise peaceful protest that was later hijacked by hoodlums.”

Court fixes Nov 22 for arraignment of ex-Aviation Minister, Stella Oduah

A Federal High Court, Abuja on Wednesday fixed November 22 for the arraignment of ex-Aviation Minister, Stella Oduah, over allegations bordering on fraud while she served in the office.

Although Oduah, who currently represents Anambra North Senatorial District at the National Assembly, was scheduled for arraignment before Justice Inyang Ekwo on Tuesday, the proceeding could not take place due to a public holiday.

However, a check at the court on Wednesday by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) revealed that the matter, though not on the cause list, had been fixed for Nov. 22 and Nov 23 for trial.

End SARS anniversary: Our demands still not met – Nigerians

As Nigerians mark the first year anniversary of the End SARS protest on Wednesday, Osogbo, the Osun State capital, wore a peaceful look as residents went about their normal daily activities.

A DAILY POST reporter who went round observed that business continued as usual in parts of the town where protesters could easily converge.

Business and normal activities in places like Stadium roundabout, Oke-Fia roundabout, Lameco roundabout, Ogo-Oluwa and Olaiya roundabout continue undisrupted even as minimal police presence was observed at Lameco junction.

Some residents who spoke with DAILY POST on the End SARS anniversary were of the opinion that nothing had really changed as the injustice that was the main reason for the protest still existed in the society.

Protesters in convoy drive through Lekki toll gate to mark #EndSARS anniversary

Dozens of vehicles drove through the Lekki toll gate on Wednesday morning as Nigerian youths marked the first anniversary of the #EndSARS protest.

The protest was staged in honour of those who lost their lives during last year’s protest.

Protesters at Lekki toll gate beeped their cars horn as a signal for their support for the ongoing #EndSARS memorial.

They waved Nigeria’s flag while shouting #EndSARS in their vehicles.

The Lagos police command has deployed its personnel at strategic points at the Lekki toll gate, with officers seen wielding guns, firing teargas and mishandling protesters.
