One of the abducted Greenfield University students released
One of the the abducted students of Greenfield University has been released by kidnappers. Though, the Kaduna state government is yet to confirm the news, the mother of the victim confirmed the news of her son released to newsmen in Abuja during the protest at the national assembly.
She however refused to give full details of the released and whether a ransom was paid. It was learnt that the student was freed last week after his mother, who is a wife of a retired army general, negotiated and paid ransom to the bandits privately.
The parents had earlier stated that the criminals have been negotiating with them privately, asking each of the parents to pay 20 million naira before the bandits eventually lowered the conditions and demanded for 100 million naira for the release of the students.
The parents had, however appealed to the state government and Nigerians to come to their rescue so that their children would be saved.
With the release of the student, the fate of the remaining cannot be guaranteed even as the bandits threaten to kill them if their parents refused to pay the ransom and also provide ten new motorcycles. The bandits had earlier killed five of them.
El-Rufai says Goodluck Jonathan tried to jail him
His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kaduna state and a prominent member of the ruling party, Mallam Nasiru El-Rufai, has disclosed that former president Goodluck Jonathan tried to jail him because he thought he was a threat to his second term bid.
The Governor said though Goodluck Jonathan was his close friend from when he was the Governor of Bayelsa state, he tried to nail him down because he believed those who told him that he was a great threat to his second term ambition.
El-rufai said his prosecution started in 2006 when he was still controlling the affairs of the FCT as the minister. He vowed that no one could intimidate or blackmail him into doing what he did not believe in unless they offer superior logic.
On the worsening security challenges in the state, the governor said his administration was working tirelessly and using all the available resources to gradually solve the issue.
PDP will mount pressure on Buhari to rescue Nigeria from insecurity - Saraki
Bukola Saraki, Nigerian former Senate President, has vowed that the opposition party will mount pressure on President Muhammadu Buhari and his administration if the worsening security challenges in the country is not addressed.
Speaking at the party's secretariat on Tuesday, the former governor of Kwara state said the opposition party would continue to proffer solution to the country's security challenges. He said pressure, through constitutional means, would yield results that the ordinary man is clamouring for.
According to him, the opposition party would continue to play is constitutional role in letting the current administration aware of it lapses and continue to mount pressure through legitimate means in telling them what they need to do, so that the country will not slid into anarchy. He said if Nigerians want truth to prevail, then the right thing must be done.
So, pressuring the government must involve, and the opposition party will continue to follow that through constitutional means.
The former Senate President said when it comes to insecurity, it affects everyone, it's not just all about political parties, because the primary responsibility of government is to all Nigerians.
Presidency speaks on abducted Greenfield University students
The Presidency has said President Muhammadu Buhari is working tirelessly with the military and other security operatives to rescue the abducted Greenfield University students in Kaduna state.
The Presidency said it sympathized with parents and guardians of the abducted Greenfield University students. The federal government through the military is doing everything possible to support the Kaduna state government to bring the tragic incident to an end and with no further loss of lives.
A statement released by the presidency said it will ensure that good triumphs over evil, and that all the bandits and other criminals terrorising the country are brought to book. It, therefore, called on all Nigerians to collaborate with each other regardless of religion, ethnicity or partisan affiliation against a common and dastardly enemy.
Obaseki reveals causes of insecurity in the country
The Executive Governor of Edo state, Godswill Obaseki says the worsening security challenges in the country is caused by the way the ruling party was managing the country's affairs.
In the last few years, Nigeria has experienced a spate of killings, kidnapping and arson perpetrated by unknown gunmen and terrorists in different parts of the country.
Speaking on the security challenges in the country when some prominent members of the opposition party (PDP) paid him a visit, the governor said lawlessness and indiscipline of the ruling party led the country to the present situation.
Obaseki, however, said that the federal government cannot tackle the menace of insecurity if the overstretched system of government is not addressed. He said only the opposition party (PDP) can help President Muhammadu Buhari solve the security challenges in the country.
The statement came few weeks after the Governor stirred controversy over his claim that the federal government had printed about 60 billion naira in March to support allocation to states, a development he described as a huge financial trouble for the nation.
However, the federal government through the minister of finance have denied the governor's claim.
Fayose declares his candidate for Ekiti governorship election
Former governor of Ekiti state and a prominent member of the opposition party (PDP), Ayo Fayose, has declared Bisi Kolawole has his preferred candidate for the 2022 governorship election in the state.
Bisi Kolawole, the current chairman of the party in the state and a former house of representative member, representing Efon federal constituency, was graciously presented by Fayose to his supporters in all the wards in the state.
The PDP chieftain said that the declaring and unveiling of Bisi Kolawole was aimed at preparing ground for his possible emergence as candidate in the governorship primary of the state. The occasion was graced by prominent members of the opposition party in the state.
Speaking at the occasion, Fayose described Mr Kolawole as a bridge builder, who would usher in a better future for Ekiti people and the party in general. He commended two former house of representative members who stepped down for Kolawole, saying it is a mark of respect for his leadership.
Fayose, however, disclosed that whoever emerge winner in the primary election among the aspirants would have his support. Mr Kolawole in his remarks, promised that he would not betray the confidence reposed on him.
