Islamic Group plans to implement Shariah Law in the Southwest- See how people reacted

The Nigerian Senate has received a proposal for a possible revision and amendment of the 1999 constitution, which would allow for the establishment and application of Sharia law in the south-west.

At a zonal public hearing on constitutional amendments in Lagos on Wednesday, the Muslim Congress (TMC) proposed the establishment of Islamic law, according to Pulse.

The Islamic group's demand for the law's adoption in the Yoruba-speaking zone is to ensure that the Muslim population's interests are protected.

The Senate's hearings, held across the country's geopolitical zones, are intended at gathering public input so that it can examine and alter the constitution as needed.

“We want to partner for the formation of Sharia courts in the South West because of our Muslim population,” said Abdulganiyu Bamidele, spokesperson of the religious organisation.
