It had been recently reported that a teen mum, Verphy Kudi, who left her twenty months old daughter in a flat in Brighton, England, for almost six days, while she partied in London and Coventry with her boyfriend to celebrate her 18th birthday, has been sentenced to nine years in prison, the little baby, Asiah, was alone in the flat for the complete six days, and since she was unable to call for help and depended solely on her mother, she eventually died of Influenza and starvation.
Kudi returned to find her dead daughter, feeling confused and scared, she called the paramedics, they came but it was too late, Kudi pleaded guilty to manslaughter, which has less consequences than murder by virtue of it not being intentional, and she was sentenced at the Lewes Crown Court on 6th August 2021.
As you can see, the story is very tragic, in addition who knows what that little girl must have passed through in her final moments, all because of the neglect and carelessness of her mother who was supposed to protect her, also I can't help but wonder how Kudi managed to forget about her daughter for a while 6 days, how she could be partying when her daughter was dying of hunger, it all seems so wrong, but there are lessons to be learnt here.
The first thing to note is that the girl is clearly too young to have a daughter, she had the baby before she was 18 years of age, she clearly did not value what she had enough, teenagers are know to be impulsive, and sometimes reckless, she does not have the requisite capabilities required in raising a child.
The second thing to note is that the teenage mother in question did not have a loving and warm environment for the child to grow in, no family around, even the father was not there, it was only Kudi and her daughter, assuming there were other family around, you can bet that little Asiah would not have died.
