SERAP sues Nigerian government over plan to monitor Phone calls and Whatsapp messages

SERAP stands for Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project. The scheme is bent on straightening the bent rights of the society.

Whatsapp is an application that promises to protect your messages from third parties. You even have the right to make private phone calls. We are not under dictatorship. This is a democratic system of government.

The law suit related to the case was put up by Kehinde Oyewumi and Kolawole Oluwadare. They are both lawyers of SERAP.

A part of the suit reads: “The Buhari administration has legal obligations to protect Nigerians and other people against arbitrary interference and violations of their human rights.

Monitoring of WhatsApp messages, phone calls and text messages would grant free rein to government agencies to conduct mass surveillance of communication of people.”

Ministers, like Malami and Zainab, are being held at high esteem concerning this case. They are rumoured to have hands in the ploy by the government.
