The US Mission in Nigeria has issued a warning to its nationals in the country not to take part in tomorrow's protests in many parts of the country.
This was issued in a statement titled Demonstration Alert: US Mission Nigeria (June 11, 2021) - Nationwide Protests on Democracy Day,' this statement was sent on Friday June 11th.
Several groups have stated their intentions to protest countrywide on June 12, Democracy Day,” according to the alert. Police presence and response are expected around the country, notably in Abuja, where government festivities to commemorate the national holiday are planned, and in Lagos, where simultaneous protests are planned.
Protests are expected to take place at Unity Fountain (near the Hilton Hotel), Wuse, Berger Roundabout, Aguiyi Ironsi Way, Airport Road, and British Circle in Abuja. Protests are likely to occur at the Lekki Toll Gate and Gani Fawehinmi Park in Lagos. Protests are expected to start as early as 7 a.m., according to organizers.
Actions to Take: Stay away from the demonstration sites. If you find yourself unexpectedly in the midst of big crowds or protests, proceed with caution. Keep an eye on the local news for any updates. Maintain a modest profile.
