Why Ex- Kwara State Governor was arrested by EFCC

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested the former of Governor of Kwara State Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed Maigida today in Abuja

His arrest was in connection with how funds to the tune of about N9 billion were allegedly diverted from the coffers of the Kwara State government.

The anti-graft agency invited him to their office for interrogation on how the money was being diverted during his tenure

However, the money was alleged to have been diverted during his tenure as governor of the state, and when he served as the Commissioner for Finance in the administration of former Governor Bukola Saraki.

Abdulfatah Ahmed is a Nigerian banker and politician. He had HND, BSc in Chemistry and a Master of Business Administration.

He was a lecturer in Organic Chemistry at Federal College of Arts and Science, in Sokoto State.

Ahmed worked an Assistant Manager at District Savings and Loans, Lagos before he joined GT Bank in the Credit and Marketing Unit.

He also with worked with Societe Generale Bank Nigeria as a Senior Manager/Group Head, where Bokola Saraki was the General Manager then.

When Bukola Saraki became Governor of Kwara state, he appointed him as his Commissioner for Finance and Economic Development for complete 8 years and succeeded Saraki as Kwara State Governor when Saraki left the office.

In December 2020, he was arrested by Nigerian authorities in connection with his alleged involvement in a long-running financial fraud.
