Members of civil society organisations and students on Monday took to major streets in Edo State to protest against the compulsory COVID-19 vaccination policy put in place by the Governor Godwin Obaseki-led administration.

The protesters, who grounded vehicular movement in the metropolis, carried placards bearing inscriptions as: ‘We need security in Edo, not vaccine’; ‘We will resist any form of executive rascality’; ‘Hunger is killing us, not COVID-19’.

They also threatened to completely shut down government houses, government agencies/parastatals, corporate organisations enforcing ‘no vaccine, no entry’ policies, stressing that the protest of Monday was just a warning.

Fulani Herdsmen Kill 30, Burn Houses In Kaduna

At least 30 persons were killed at Madamai and Abun communities in the Malagun District of Kaura Local Government Area of Kaduna state on Sunday night.

Gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen were said to have invaded the villages and fired gunshots indiscriminately.

The attack also left several people injured.

"Some of those injured have been taken to hospital. Not less than 15 houses were burnt by the attackers who are suspended to be Fulani herdsmen," a source said.

Southern youths slam IPOB

Coalition of Southern Nigeria Youths, CSNY, lashed out at the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPoB, for banning hoisting of Nigeria’s flag in South-East region as from October 1, 2021, describing it as provocative and open invitation to war.

Coordinator of the group, Christian Abeh, in a statement, yesterday, said the ungodly action of IPoB was a threat to the existence of citizens not only in the South East region, but in South- South and South-West geo-political regions.

“We received information of an alleged banning of our national flag in the entire Southeastern part of the country by members of IPoB with rude shock, considering the fact that most of these people do not know the true meaning of crossing the boundary”.

UK launches special visas for truck drivers, farmers

The United Kingdom has launched a special visa scheme for immigrant lorry drivers, farmers and poultry workers as the country faces labour shortages.

UK Transport Secretary, Grant Shapps, says the scheme would ease the effect of the global COVID-19 pandemic on the country’s haulage and food industry.

According to reports, UK is presently suffering a severe shortage of lorry and fuel tanker drivers, which has disrupted fuel and goods deliveries.

Nigerian Troops Killed Scores Of Terrorists

The Nigerian Army on Monday says troops eliminated scores of terrorists who attacked the Sokoto military base.

In a statement on Monday, Major General Benjamin Olufemi Sawyer, Director, Defence Information, said troops of Operation Hadarin Daji, in conjunction with other security agencies, successfully repelled an attack by suspected Islamic State for West African Province (ISWAP) terrorists and bandits on the Forward Operation Base (FOB) at Burkusuma in the Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State

According to him, the failed attack, which took place around 5:30 am, September 26, 2021, in the remote border settlement with Niger Republic, was swiftly repelled by troops.
